NEW CITY – Surplus relief supplies from the closed down Rockland County nursing home will be headed to Haiti in the days ahead as residents face housing and health issues following a hit by Hurricane Matthew earlier this month.
Surplus linens and other items from the closed Summit Park Hospital and Nursing Care Center will be shipped shortly.
Haiti was still recovering from a massive 2010 earthquake, when Hurricane Matthew hit, killing more than 500 people, with the toll expected to climb.
Many residents of Haitian descent live in Rockland. Legislators Toney Earl and Aney Paul said they have been working with local Haitian organizations to identify other ways to help.
