POUGHKEEPSIE – In light of the revelations of Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s abusive behavior toward women, the Dutchess County Democratic Committee has called on Sheriff Adrian “Butch” Anderson, State Senator Susan Serino and others to publicly disavow Trump.
“This is not the first time Trump has denigrated women,” said Democratic Chairwoman Elisa Sumner. “He made personal attacks during the Republican debates against Carly Fiorina, newscaster Megan Kelly, and he’s called Rosie O’Donnell disgusting and a fat pig, even telling the audience in the first debate that O’Donnell ‘deserved’ it.”
Sumner said local GOP officials should renounce Trump as their candidate. “Bigotry, misogyny and hatred must not be allowed to flourish in Dutchess, and every elected leader should condemn it,” she said.
Debra Blalock, a Democratic Committee member and former county legislator, said Trump has had “a long history of racism” as well. She pointed to the Justice Department’s suing of the Trump organization for discrimination under the Fair Housing Act, for not renting to African Americans and in the late 1980s, is call for the execution of the Central Park Five despite the fact that the five young men were officials exonerated by DNA evidence and the confession of the real perpetrator of the crime.
