RAMAPO – Town Police in Ramapo have two men in custody and are
looking for a third in connection with the theft of two motorcycles in
front of a man’s house on Dolson Road.

At about 3 a.m. on Monday, police received a call from the resident there
that three suspects were stealing the bikes.

Responding officers spotted a U-Haul truck driving north on Remsen Road
and as they approached and stopped it, the driver drove off at a high
rate of speed north on Route 306. The vehicle turned onto Viola Road toward
Spring Valley, attempted to turn onto Zuba Lane, ran off the road and
struck a house, damaging a natural gas line. The house suffered extensive
damage.

Arrested in the back of the U-Haul truck where the stolen motorcycles
were located, were Karl Lapeine, 19, of Spring Valley and Ely Portillo-Mendoza,
16, of New Hempstead. Both were charged with grand larceny and criminal
possession of stolen property, both as felonies, and criminal mischief
as a misdemeanor.

The motorcycles were a 2013 Suzuki 400cc and a 2012 Yamaha 250cc.

The Hillcrest Fire Department and Orange and Rockland Utilities responded
to the scene because of the damage to the natural gas line.
