MIDDLETOWN – A Middletown man was arrested on Tuesday and charged with first-degree rape for allegedly sexually abusing a girl when she was between six and 11 years of age.
The Orange County Child Abuse Unit arrested Manuel Cordero, 41, of Middletown, and charged him with rape, criminal sexual act, sexual abuse, aggravated sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. He was also charged with a violation of parole.
He allegedly abused the girl while in the Town of Wallkill.
State Police arrested Cordero following a report to the state Child Abuse Hotline. The investigation began in August in conjunction with the Orange County Department of Social Service’s Child Protective Services unit.
Cordero was committed to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $150,000 cash bail or $450,000 bond.
An order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.
