TOWN OF THOMPSON – Within a year, residents in the population center
of Sullivan County will have critical healthcare services closer to home,
when Catskill Regional Medical Group opens its urgent and primary care
office in Kiamesha Lake, less than a mile from Monticello.
Ground was broken on Wednesday.
Catskill Regional Medical Center CEO Dr. Gerard Galarneau said Wednesday this is just the start of something big.
“This building will be the first of many steps working with our new neighbors in transforming healthcare in Sullivan County,” said Galarneau, noting the facility’s proximity to the casino resort under construction just a half-mile away.
Greater Hudson Valley Health System Board Chairman Darrell Supak said this is a striking turnaround for a hospital in danger of going out of existence a decade ago.
“Since then, though, the hospital has reinvented itself,” Supak said.  “A new birthing center was added, the emergency department was doubled in size and almost every corner of the hospital was renovated.  It’s a hospital that we can all be proud of.”
State Senator John Bonacic called this a big step forward for a county ranked second from bottom in the state for quality of healthcare.
“Believe me, that’s all going to change for the best,” Bonacic declared.  “We have Sullivan 180 working hard.  The state is looking at Sullivan County to come in with help.  And, with this addition, the revenues that this will produce for the hospital, believe me, it’s all good.”
When the 12,000 square foot facility opens both residents and visitors will have quick access to quality urgent and primary care.
