Improvements to roadways off of Route 17 that will connect visitors
to the proposed LEGOLAND New York theme park in the Town of Goshen are
expected to cost an estimated $15 million. LEGOLAND is seeking assistance
from the state to fund these local roadway improvements but is willing
to contribute to excess costs.

The company also announced it will open a community welcome center at
6 North Church Street in Goshen in a matter of weeks so that local residents
could come in, ask questions about the proposal and receive the latest
updates.

“We want to make sure that everyone has access to the information
about the park whether they are a supporter or whether they are an opponent,”
Royle said. “This is a rather large investment for us. There is
a commitment, there is a financial cost to doing this, but we feel it
is incredibly important to give the village and the town access to finding
out about Legoland so that they can make a decision on their own.”

Opponents of the project believe the company has not been forthcoming
enough and they feel it will negatively impact traffic, the water supply,
environment and small town character of the area.

Merlin officials, meanwhile, are taking business leaders on a visit to
their Florida Legoland theme park to get a firsthand look at a facility
in operation.
