Recreational bikers on one of the city’s trails

PORT JERVIS – Some 30 miles of newly created mountain trails in Port Jervis will get their first organized workout next weekend.
A day of mountain bike races will be held on this coming Saturday after
city volunteers created them last year.
Mayor Kelly Decker said the word of the trails spread rapidly and that led to the upcoming event.
“Four men from West Point mountain biking association came up,
looked at the trails, loved the trails, and said these are the best trails
they have been on all season,” the mayor said.  “On October
1, the City of Port Jervis will hold its first outside collegiate event;
it’s mountain biking racing, sponsored by the US Military Academy.”
Decker said maps of the trails have already been prepared, and parking lots and kiosks are being developed for the trails which can be used for biking and hiking.
