NEWBURGH – A load of very large heat recovery steam generators, weighing between 113,000 and 230,000 pounds each, were moved overnight Sunday from the City of Newburgh waterfront to the CPV power plant that is under construction in the Town of Wawayanda.
The devices had been held up for months at Steelways, Inc. in Newburgh
due to a dispute with officials over two tree stumps located on their
route in a vacant lot across the street from the Hudson Riverfront operations.
The generators were moved overnight Sunday into Monday by Edwards Moving and Rigging to the 650-megawatt electric generating plant construction site located off Route 6 near I-84.  The convoy of equipment was escorted by several State Police vehicles.
Construction of the power plant has continued to be controversial with locals saying it is environmentally unsound and that proper vetting was not conducted. Most recently, last week a former top official of the company was charged by federal authorities in an alleged bribery conspiracy.
