TOWN OF MONROE – The Town of Monroe highway department has received a $275,000 state grant to replace its street sweeper that recently caught fire and was destroyed.
Senator William Larkin (R, Cornwall-on-Hudson) secured the funding through the State and Municipal Facilities Program. He said losing a piece of major equipment in the middle of a fiscal year is “a real hardship” on the department’s budget. “Replacing the street sweeper also helps maintain the clean and healthy quality of life Monroe residents deserve.”
Without the state grant, town residents would have faced an increase in their tax bills, said Highway Superintendent John Scherne.
The total cost of the machine was not included in a news release about the state grant.
