KINGSTON – It may not be a traditional art class, but SUNY Ulster is offering a new class this fall – tattoo illustration.
Michael Locasio, the owner of Ink Inc. Tattooing in Kingston and Saugerties is teaming up with the college to offer a class in the art. No actual tattooing will be done, but graduates will end up with a range of drawings that they could use to apply for apprenticeship opportunities, the college said.
“The class will be interesting for artists of all skill levels,” Locasio said. “But it also could be a stepping stone to starting a career in tattooing.”
Patrice Macauley, SUNY Ulster’s program coordinator of continuing education, approached Locasio with the idea for the class after seeing other community colleges including SUNY Purchase offering a tattoo course.
The SUNY Ulster course costs $149 and begins on October 6. It will run on Thursday evenings until November 10. To register, call 845-339-2025.
