Worshippers walk through Mahopac
MAHOPAC – Putnam County is fast becoming a melting post of cultures
from around the world, particularly Latin America. That was evident on
Saturday as hundreds of Ecuardorians from around the region participated
in a processional to celebrate the Day of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Ecuadorians celebrate the birth of the Virgin Mary every September.
A band accompanied the participants to St. John’s Church where a
mass was conducted.
During the procession, a flower-covered statue of the Holy Mother was
carried on a pedestal to the church.
Priests prayed that the Virgin Mary continue to provide comfort to the
sick and sustain those who devote their lives to the healing of those
who suffer physical and spiritual wounds.
