Horseback rider dies after being thrown during competition

SAUGERTIES – A Manorville woman died Wednesday afternoon when she was thrown from a horse as she was competing in a Jump Off competition at the HITS facility.
Rebecca Weissbard, 22, of Suffolk County, was attempting the second of 10 hurdles when her horse struck a cross pole, causing her to be thrown from the horse. She sustained fatal injuries.
DIAZ Ambulance responded, but was unable to revive Weissbard.
