SAUGERTIES – A Manorville woman died Wednesday afternoon when she
was thrown from a horse as she was competing in a Jump Off competition
at the HITS facility.
Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra said Rebecca Weissbard, 22, of
Suffolk County, was attempting the second of 10 hurdles when her horse
struck a cross pole on Hurdle #2, causing Weissbard to be thrown from
the horse. She sustained fatal injuries as a result.
Immediately after the accident, DIAZ Ambulance responded to the scene,
but was unable to revive Weissbard.
