NEWBURGH – Republican 18th Congressional District candidate Philip
Oliva Friday criticized Democratic incumbent Representative Sean Patrick
Maloney as being “derelict in his duty” over the proposal
to designate 10 points along the Hudson River as commercial ship anchorages.

Oliva, who opposes the plan as does Maloney, said the incumbent spoke
out only after the issue went public. “Where were you when this
plan was hatched?” Oliva asked. “Isn’t this what you
were sent down to Washington for? This is a federal proposal and you are
our federal representative. You’re just learning about this now
when the cake is baked?”

Oliva charged that Maloney is either “simply too weak and ineffective
in his job with ‘no juice’ or that he is too busy campaigning
around the country for Hillary Clinton and playing political ‘games’
to notice new federal proposals that will negatively impact our local
region until he reads about it in the paper.”

Maloney held a news conference this past week surrounded by a number of
local public officials and representatives of environmental organizations
to denounce the proposal.
