Brooklyn man drowns in Delaware River

BARRYVILLE – An 18-year-old Brooklyn man drowned in the Delaware
River near the Kittatinny Campground in Barryville on Saturday. State
Police said his body was recovered on Sunday.

Police said Jonathan Hernandez was attempting to swim across the river
without a personal flotation device when he became fatigued and slipped
below the surface. Search efforts were conducted with negative results
until dusk on Saturday and when they were resumed with a State Police
dive team and the United States Park Service, his body was discovered
on Sunday.

Assisting with the search and recovery efforts were the Town of Highland
Constables, American Legion Ambulance, Yulan Fire Department, Town of
Lumberland Fire Department and Highland Lake Fire Department.
