POUGHKEEPSIE – Troop K of the State Police, which serves the counties of Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Columbia, has a new commander. Superintendent George Beach II appointed Major Robert Nuzzo to the post, replacing Major Robin Benziger, who will now serve the State Police Office of Employee Relations.
Nuzzo began his career with the State Police as a trooper assigned to Troop K in 1987. He transferred to Troop F on the west side of the Hudson River the following year. Throughout his tenure, he moved up the ranks in both troops as well as was in charge of security for the 2002 US Open Golf Championship.
He was held supervisory roles at the Woodstock 1994 and 1999 music festivals and was part of the state’s response detail assigned to Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
