CORTLANDT – A domestic dispute on Ely Road in the Town of Cortlandt led the arrest of a man for allegedly firing a round from a Panther Arms A-15 assault rifle from his garage into the backyard towards occupied homes.
Police were called to a domestic disturbance on Ely Road. Investigation revealed Costello was outside working on his vehicle when the victim returned to the residence. Costello reportedly entered the garage and grabbed the assault rifle. The victim was able to get into the house and call 911 for police assistance.
State Police charged Martin Costello, 56, of Cortlandt, on Sunday with criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment, both as felonies.  Investigators said he fired one round from the rifle after the woman went inside the house.
Costello was sent to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
