SAUGERTIES – A 13-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in
Ulster County Family Court with felony burglary after he was caught by
the resident inside an apartment at 265 Main Street in Saugerties. She
called police and the youth, whose name police did not make public because
of his age, was caught a short distance away.

Saugerties detectives also determined the boy had committed several car
larcenies in the Village of Saugerties. He was also charged with those
crimes and was released to a family member.
Police said over the past several weeks, during the overnight hours,
there has been a rash of larcenies from unsecured cars in the Village
and Town of Saugerties.

Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles at night, even if it is
on personal property.

In one case, a loaded handgun was taken from an unlocked vehicle in the
Barclay Heights area. Gun owners are reminded they should never leave
a firearm unsecured in a vehicle.

Anyone with information about the theft of a gun, or those responsible
for committing the car larcenies, is asked to call Saugerties Police Detectives
at 845-246-9800. All calls will remain confidential.
