Ulster County tops new jobs in region

ALBANY – Ulster County had the second highest percentage of new jobs in the state during the 12-month period ending in July.  The county’s rate of new jobs rose by 3.3 percent.
Only the Ithaca and Watertown-Fort Drum markets were higher, each area with 3.7 percent growth.
The Orange-Putnam-Westchester metro area had 2.2 percent more jobs and the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division employment rose by 1.4 percent.
New jobs in Sullivan County grew by 0.9 percent while they rose in Columbia County by 0.6 percent.
Greene County employment dropped by 0.9 percent.
Private sector employment in the Hudson Valley increased by 16,500, or 2.1 percent, to 802,600 in July.
Jobs were added in educational and health services; other services; trade, transportation and utilities; professional and business services; leisure and hospitality; and natural resources, mining and construction. Job losses were mostly centered in financial activities; and information.
The government added 900 jobs over the 12-month period.
