NEW PALTZ – A Middletown man was remanded to the Ulster County Jail
on bail following his arrest on domestic abuse charges.

New Paltz Police said Cary Straub, 36, was charged with criminal contempt
and aggravated family offense, both as felonies.

Officers were called to Route 32 North in the Town of New Paltz at 6:15
a.m. on August 12 for a report of a couple arguing on the side of the
road.

When officers arrived, the man, identified as Straub, fled the scene,
but was located by police hiding in the woods nearby.

Officers learned the two were involved in a domestic dispute and that
Straub had violated an order of protection and then crashed his car trying
to leave the area.

Following his arrest, Straub was arraigned and committed to the Ulster
County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond.

State Police assisted in the investigation.
