MONTICELLO – Bids are due in just five days, on the 17th, for construction of Sullivan County’s long overdue new jail.  The initial expectation was perhaps two or three firms bidding.
County Manager Joshua Potosek told county legislators on Thursday the word he is getting from the design firm, LaBella Associates, is there could be twice that number.
“We think there’s probably going to be at least five or six GCs bidding; general contractors,” Potosek predicted.
As designed by LaBella, the base price for the new jail should be around $95 million.
Potosek said if the bids come in high, that could reset the design and the clock
“Conversations we would have to have.  We probably wouldn’t be awarding contracts on September 1.”
The current calendar is that if the bids are in order and in range, a special meeting would be held on that date to award the bids.
