NEWBURGH – Since foot patrols were brought back to the City of Newburgh on January 9, 2015, the police department has logged its 1,000th walking patrol.
The backbone of community policing “is and always will be foot patrols,” Lt. Richard Carrion said.
He noted a police department gets its strength from the community is served. “We have instituted many community policing initiatives to engage our community to foster partnerships and the positive relationships necessary to mutually solve problems and make our community safe,” Carrion said, citing the Youth/Community Initiative, Group Violence Intervention, Crisis Intervention Team and Police/Community forums.
“We look forward to continuing our community policing initiatives and commitment to strive toward a positive relationship with those we serve,” Carrion said.
