Contractor charged with Rockland wage violations scheme

NEW CITY – Criminal charges were filed Wednesday against a Mahwah, New Jersey contractor for allegedly defrauding nine employees out of more than $82,000 by failing to pay mandatory prevailing wages on several public works projects for Rockland County.
Christopher Greco, 52, faces a 57-count indictment charging him with seven counts of grand larceny, 48 counts of offering a false instrument for filing, all felonies, and one misdemeanor for petit larceny.
Greco conducted his business under the company name of Cross County Landscaping and Tree Service, Inc. and Rockland Tree Service, is alleged to have failed to pay the legally required prevailing wages for at least nine construction workers who worked on several tree jobs for five separate Rockland government departments.
If convicted, he faces up to seven years in state prison. Including all penalties, Greco could owe up to $172,000.
