NYC man arrested in Sullivan County for possession of psychedelic mushrooms

MAMAKATING – A Queens man was arrested by State Police on Route 17 in the Town of Mamakating and charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Police say Fernando Macareno, 19, had in possession more than five grams of psilocybin mushrooms. He was a passenger in a car driven by Sean Barriga, 22, of Queens, who was pulled over for talking on a cell phone, was charged with several traffic offenses and unlawful possession of marijuana.  Another passenger, Oscar Mejia, 19, of Floral Park, was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana.
Macareno is in the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail.  Barriga and Mejia were released on appearance tickets.
