KINGSTON – An Ulster County grand jury indicted a Saugerties man on Friday for murder in the death of his girlfriend.
Karon Bowden, 41, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the death of Amy Louise Burger, who was 24 years old at the time of her death on May 31.
This was the second homicide in Saugerties in a matter of days. On May 26, Earl Edwards, Jr., 26, was charged with the stabbing death of Rameen Perry, 40.
In the Edwards case, he hopped on an Amtrak train and was caught by police
while still in a rail car when the train stopped in Washington, DC.
District Attorney Holley Carnright said his office is “very aggressive” in their prosecutions.
“At some point the people in the community have to help out,” the DA said. “They have to make a note of things they see. They have to call the people when there is a concern. Friends and family have to offer comfort. We are trying to reach all potential victims of domestic violence.”
But, Carnright said some of the victims do not want to come forward and seek assistance.
Special Victims Bureau Chief Katherine Van Loan is handling the case for the DA’s office. Bowden is being represented by Russell Schindler of the Ulster County Public Defender’s Office.
