KINGSTON – An Ulster County grand jury Friday indicted a Saugerties
man on a murder charge in the death of his girlfriend.

Karon Bowden, 41, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a
weapon in the death of Amy Louise Burger, who was 24 years old at the
time of her death on May 31.
This was the second homicide in Saugerties in a matter of days. On May
26, Earl Edwards, Jr., 26, was charged with the stabbing death of 40-year-old
Rameen Perry.

In the Edwards Case, he hopped on an Amtrak train and was caught by police
while still in a rail car when the train stopped in Washington, DC.

“The quest to dominate another human being is at the root of most
domestic violence,” said District Attorney Holley Carnright. “Causing
death is the ultimate act of power and control over another person. It
is tragic that Ms. Burger lost her life to a man she once loved and trusted.”

Special Victims Bureau Chief Katherine Van Loan is handling the case for
the DA’s office. Bowden is being represented by Russell Schindler
of the Ulster County Public Defender’s Office.
