Maloney pleased with improvements in sexual assault reporting at USMA

WEST POINT – The West Point
Board of Visitors Monday was briefed on the status of the sexual assault
reporting at the US Military Academy.
There were 11 reports of cadet cases in academic year 2013-14, 18 the
following year and 19 last year.

Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) is a member of the board and
he said the academy is making “real progress” in the entire
procedure of reporting.

“Particularly in the area of awareness and reporting and as we get
better data on the number of incidents and the nature of those incidents
we are developing better responses,” he said. “I am particularly
pleased by the leadership of Supt. Caslen right now on this issue he takes
very seriously and they take very seriously.”
The Board of Visitors was also briefed on the cadet barracks upgrade
program. The Scott barracks was completed in August 2014 at a cost of
$54 million. The Mac Short barracks, at a cost of $48 million, was completed
in November 2015.

The Mac Long barracks, costing $62 million, is under construction and
projected to be completed in October of next year.

Design funding of $7 million has been awarded for the Eisenhower barracks.
The total cost of the project will be $100 million.

Grant barracks, at $63 million, is planned for fiscal year 18. The Bradley
barracks, at a cost of $145 million, is expected to be upgraded in fiscal
year 19-20.

The Lee barracks, at a cost of $38 million, is targeted for fiscal year
20, and Sherman barracks, at a cost of $51 million with work on fiscal
year 2012.
