GOSHEN – Orange County legislators have approved a resolution authorizing
the discontinuation of certain land in the Village of Montgomery as parkland
so that it could be used to construct and operate a solar farm.
The resolution of support, which carries no legal weight passed, but
not before debate. “The resolution was not on the agenda,”
said Democratic Minority Leader Matthew Turnbull. “It was brought
on consent, which means that we had no time to study it in statutory committee.”
He went on to say that the county has a history of making some “really
serious mistakes,” like Camp LaGuardia, so he’s an advocate
of the Legislature being able to take their time to make sure they dot
every ‘i’ and cross every ‘t’ to “get it
right.”

The last minute agenda item ended up passing the county legislature after
some discussion, which included New York being a “home rule state.”

The matter undertaken was largely a ‘pro forma’ one, since
the bill has already passed the state Senate and Assembly, and will now
come before Governor Cuomo.
