MONTICELLO – Sam Yasgur, until recently Sullivan County Government’s attorney, died Thursday nigh at age 74 following a long battle with cancer.
Yasgur retired recently and was replaced by assistant attorney Cheryl McCausland.
County Legislature Chairman Louis Alvarez was saddened by his loss.
“He was a good friend and one of the best attorneys I have ever seen,” Alvarez said
Yasgur was a whiz at federal litigation, Alvarez said.
Yasgur, who often rode his motorcycle to work, was the son of Max Yasgur, who leased his 600-acre dairy farm in Bethel for the Woodstock Music and Art Festival in 1969.  He wrote a book about his father, “Max B. Yasgur: The Woodstock Festival’s Famous Farmer,” which was self-published in 2009.
Yasgur was a 27-year assistant district attorney in Manhattan. His career also extended to private practice and as Westchester County Attorney.
