Designer eyeglass company to open optical lab in Sloatsburg

SLOATSBURG – Warby Parker,
a designer eyeglass manufacturer, will move into a new 34,000 square foot
optical lab in Sloatsburg for the assembly of glasses and the finishing
of prescription lenses. The Manhattan-based company has pledged to create
128 jobs over the next five years.
Governor Andrew Cuomo called Warby Parker “a fast-growing company
and their new facility will bring jobs, provate investment and a new economic
energy to the entire region.”
Rockland County Executive Edwin Day said they welcome the company “with open arms.”
US Senator Charles Schumer said Warby Parker’s announcement “brings into sharp focus just how talented the Hudson Valley workforce is.”
The state’s Empire State Development Corporation will give the company up to $1.32 million in Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits. As part of the deal, Warby Parker will invest more than $15 million to construct and outfit the new factory.
The state has agreed to up the tax credits if the company creates 145 new jobs and retains 271 in the New York City headquarters. The company has agreed to retain the employment figures through 2025.
