BEACON – The City of Beacon is moving ahead with new affordable housing, but the local law on the books may be modified.
The current law calls for one workforce affordable housing unit for every 20 built. Mayor Randy Casale said the agency that will manage the facility, Hudson River Housing, would like that requirement lowered.
“They thought it should be one for every 10, not one for every 20 because we have seen people build 19 and not build 20 because they didn’t want to deal with that,” Casale said. “There was a maximum cost for rent but not a minimum cost.”
The city is mulling over the suggestion with no decision to date.
