MONTROSE – Three workers for C. Wolfe Construction, the company
that won the contract bid to perform part of the work on the swimming
pool building at the Montrose VA hospital, were injured Tuesday when they
fell roughly 15 feet through the roof.

VA spokeswoman Barbara LaColla said the men were taken to the hospital
and later released following treatment after they fell through the roof
of Building 26.

LaColla said the contractor knew the roof was in a compromised state and
an investigation is continuing to determine if their officials had followed
proper safety precautions.

The building was closed in 2002 for safety reasons. Last year, Congresswoman
Nita Lowey secured the $5.5 million needed to rebuild the facility for
use as a therapy center.

Work was begun last fall and is expected to be completed in 2017.
