The parade, including Mayor Noble (red tie) marches past City Hall

KINGSTON – A cold and rainy morning cleared up to a hot sunny Memorial Day in Kingston on Monday afternoon, drawing a sizable crowd outside City Hall, for the annual ceremony and military salute. The event was followed by a parade up Broadway.
“For those who don’t believe God watches over us, take a look at this weather,” said Kingston Veteran’s Association chairman Bill Forte.
Mayor Steve Noble, delivering his first address, recalled as a child watching his grandfather James Noble Sr. perform holiday functions on the hilltop where he stood.
Keynote speaker Gina Edinger-Carbonari, a retired Marine Corps major, spoke about her fallen comrades.
“I will never forget what they gave to this country,” she said. “The reason for this day is not the barbeques and the beaches. But to respect and honor their lives and memories.”
“We must continue to live,” Edinger- Carbonari added. “Never
forget their sacrifices, but also remember, and celebrate their lives.
Reminisce, share stories, and laugh. Enjoy the barbeque or the beach,
or the boat, it’s okay. But do so as you honor their memories.”
Kingston’s
Memorial Day event was one of dozens held across the region.
