POUGHKEEPSIE – The 152nd commencement at Vassar College in the Town of Poughkeepsie was held on Sunday. The weather cooperated with mostly sunny skies as the ceremony was held in the college’s Outdoor Amphitheater.
President Catharine Hill presided, conferring bachelor’s degrees to 630 graduating students.
Vassar alumna Sherrilyn Ifill, president and director-counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, delivered the commencement address.
Among the honors conferred on graduates were 63 students elected to Phi Beta Kappa for overall academic achievement; 28 graduates were elected to the Sigma Xi national honor society for the sciences; and 127 graduates were awarded General Honors.
