Westchester neurologist declares $345 Mickey Mantle baseball card a business expense

NEW YORK – A Scarsdale neurologist with a private practice in Manhattan faces up to three years in federal prison on his guilty plea to tax fraud. David Younger, 61, admitted to falsely classifying personal expenses as business expenses attributable to his medical professional corporation. In total in 2007 and 2008, he falsely classified over $580,000 in expenses. One was for the purchase of a Mickey Mantle baseball card for $345.
Among the other personal expenses Younger falsely categorized as business expenses and deducted on his corporate tax returns were some $100,000 in fees to a private golf and country club, $53,000 in property taxes on his residence, a $4,300 placement fee for a nanny/housekeeper, $17,000 for construction of an electric gate at his home, $26,000 for restoration of a piano that was picked from and delivered to his home, $37,000 for a vendor to perform construction work at his home, $18,000 for furniture at his home, and $20,000 in airfare for family members.
Younger is scheduled to be sentenced in September.
