MID-HUDSON – An outage by a fiber service provider resulted in a major blackout of telephone service for Time Warner Cable customers in the region on Monday afternoon into the evening hours.
State Public Service Department CEO Audrey Zibelman said fiber
service provider L3 experienced an outage on its system. As a result,
she said over 750,000 customers in the New York City area and north into
the Mid-Hudson lost cable telephone service.
The departments of Public Service and Homeland Security, as directed by the governor, “investigated the outage to ensure 911 calls were not impacted.” She said DPS will continue to investigate the incident to determine the cause.
