Town of Poughkeepsie man charged with trying to rob two people at diner

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A man, who is on parole for a 2008 robbery conviction, was arrested minutes before midnight on Friday, April 28, following two attempted armed robberies at the Acropolis Diner on Main Street.
Anthony Vero, 55, of Highview Estates at 26 Cooper Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie, was charged with two felony counts of attempted robbery.
Police said Vero attempted to rob a diner employee of money from the register and when he was unsuccessful, he left the diner and attempted to rob a female patron as she was entering the restaurant.  Police said he threatened the use of a weapon, but none was displayed.
Vero was chased away by the employee he tried to rob.
Detectives investigated and by the following afternoon, Vero was identified and arrested.
The State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision – Poughkeepsie office assisted in the investigation and issued a violation of parole warrant against Vero, who remains in the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
