Guilty plea in fatal car crash

WHITE PLAINS – A 39-year-old Mount Vernon man pled guilty on Thursday
in Westchester County Court to vehicular manslaughter in the death of
Eloise Spears.

On September 7, 2015 at 1:40 in the morning, Hasani Ewan was driving his
2001 Honda Accord eastbound on the Cross County Parkway in the vicinity
of the Seminary Bridge in Yonkers. Eloise Speaks of the Bronx was the
front seat passenger.

Ewan drove the car off the highway and into the bridge abutment. The passenger
side of the car slammed into the bridge killing Spears.

The driver smelled of alcohol and the police smelled marijuana on his
clothing.

Ewan suffered a cut to his face and was treated at Westchester Medical
center for a cut on his face. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center
for treatment and was arrested. A blood test reveled he had a blood alcohol
content of .13 BAC.

Ewan was remained to the Westchester County Jail without bail. In convicted
on a charge of vehicular manslaughter, he faces one to seven years in
state prison.
