MONTROSE – More and more women veterans are suffering from war-zone trauma as they have been assimilated in the front lines of battle.
As cases of PTSD increase, VA Hudson Valley Health Care System is going to offer free group sessions at the Montrose campus to help them overcome their issues, said regional VA spokesman Jason Tudor.
“Women are becoming more involved in the military missions based on types of roles that are available to them now, so they are affected by going to a war zone, so this group is very appropriate for them under those circumstances,” Tudor said.
Women vets interested in attending must first call clinical psychologist Dr. Yael Margolin-Rice for an interview at 914-737-4400, extension 2283.
The group is being offered for women who were deployed to a war-zone in a combat or combat-support capacity and have been adversely affected by their experiences.
Margolin-Rice said the program is not specifically for women affected by military sexual trauma although some of the participants may also have experienced some form of sexual harassment and/or sexual assault during their deployments.
