TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Verizon workers belonging to the Communications Workers of America and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers hit the picket lines across the Hudson Valley on Wednesday as some 40,000 workers up and down the east coast went on strike.

The unions have been negotiating with the phone company for some 10 months with little to no movement on key issues, said CWA Local 1120 Executive Vice President James Gescheidle.
“From retiree medical benefits, active medical benefits, job security, transfers, keeping jobs in the country – you name it, it’s on the table,” Gescheidle said.
The last time the unions struck against Verizon was in 2011 and that lasted for two weeks.
