POUGHKEEPSIE – The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department has earned
re-accreditation from the state Division of Criminal Justice Services,
Law Enforcement accreditation Program.

The department first achieved accreditation in March 2010 and was re-assessed
for a five-year period covering 2011-2015.

Accreditation involves compliance with 133 standards that represent best
practices in law enforcement.

Police Chief Ronald Spero, Jr. credited the designation “due to
the hard work and professionalism of every member of the Town of Poughkeepsie
Police Department and demonstrates our commitment to providing the highest
level of service to the community we serve.”

Accreditation is described by the Division of Criminal Justice Services
as “a progressive and contemporary way of helping police agencies
evaluate and improve their overall performance.”
