GOSHEN – A Newburgh man was sentenced in Orange County Court on Thursday to seven years in state prison following a jury conviction to burglary and other offenses in connection with a June 14, 2015 burglary of a Town of Newburgh home.
On that afternoon, Spencer Seymour broke into a Weaver Road home while the owner was away and stole tools and a rifle. A nearby resident saw him enter the house and leave with a bag full of the homeowner’s belongings which he put into a pickup truck.
The neighbor took a photo as the burglary was occurring and when the
homeowner saw it, he recognized Seymour and the truck. Seymour later surrendered
the proceeds of the burglary.
“Those who commit residential burglaries deserve to be sentenced to state prison,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “Citizens have a right to feel secure in their own homes, and when our homes are violated, even when we’re not there, we lose not only property, but the sense of safety that we all deserve to have in our homes.”
