TARRYTOWN – The Thruway Authority Monday announced that cashless tolling will go live on the Tappan Zee Bridge on Saturday, April 23 at 12 a.m.  The all-electronic toll collection will mean motorists will have to pay by E-ZPass or receive a bill for their toll by mail.
The new system was developed in conjunction with construction of the new bridge.
High-resolution cameras above each lane at the cashless tolling gantry will take a photograph of the vehicle’s front and rear license plate to register the transaction. A toll bill will automatically be sent each month to the vehicle’s registered owner by mail.
Approximately 25 million toll-paying trips were taken over the TZ Bridge in 2015.
