Funeral for Caval Haylett on Tuesday

POUGHKEEPSIE – A “Homegoing Celebration” for Poughkeepsie High School senior Caval Haylett, Jr., 18, who was shot and killed on a city street on Thursday, will be held on Tuesday, March 15.
The 11 a.m. service at Beth-El Church of God in Christ at 91 Hooker Avenue in Poughkeepsie will be preceded by visitation from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The basketball star, #5 on the court, had just scored 21 points in the Dutchess County Basketball Coaches Association Exceptional Senior Game when he was shot as he walked home. Police continue to investigate his death and the shooting of another 18-year-old man, who sustained a gunshot wound to his arm.
Haylett was the son of Caval Haylett, Sr. and Cathis Johnson. His obituary says he was passionate about basketball, playing three seasons with the Poughkeepsie Pioneers Varsity team and was this season’s leading scorer.  He had anticipated attending college and had interests from many Division III and junior colleges.  He was an honor roll student and excelled in English, Language Arts.
In addition to his parents, Haylett is survived by his fiancée, Stacy Dixon and 15 brothers and sisters.
Following his funeral, he will be interred in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
