NEWBURGH – City Police in Newburgh arrested a Newburgh man on drug charges Sunday afternoon in the area of 205 South Street.
Officers had been conducting surveillance on the Carpenter Avenue corridor following complaints from residents of open air drug dealing.
When they stopped the car driven by Daniel Gayle, 30, he fled on foot through backyards and over fences where he was finally taken into custody.
A warrant search of his car revealed a digital scale, drug packaging material and packaged baggies of marijuana with a total weight of some 184 grams. Approximately 10 grams of marijuana had been dipped in and tested positive for PCP. Officers also seized $950 in cash.
Gayle was charged with felony drug possession as well as resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and criminal possession of marijuana, all as felonies, along with several vehicle and traffic violations.
