Ulster, Columbia tie for second highest job growth year over year in January

ALBANY – Ulster and Columbia counties each recorded 3.8 percent
job growth in the 12-month period from January 2015 to this January, according
to the state Labor Department.

The Orange-Rockland-Westchester metropolitan division had a 2.1 percent
increase in jobs followed by Greene County with a 1.9 percent increase
year over year.

The Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division broke even with no gain and
Sullivan County lost 0.6 percent of its jobs.

For the 12-month period in the Mid-Hudson Valley, private sector employment
rose by 13,500, or 1.8 percent, to, 761,500.

Jobs were added in natural resources, mining and construction; education
and health services; and trade, transportation and utilities. Job losses
were centered in leisure and hospitality, and manufacturing. The government
sector added 1,300 jobs over the period.
