WHITE PLAINS – Republican 18th District congressional candidate Philip Oliva won the backing of the GOP committees in the counties of Dutchess, Orange, Putnam and Westchester counties. He topped five other candidates in the tallying on Monday night winning 73 percent of the vote on the second ballot.
One of the five others, Daniel Castricone of Tuxedo, announced on Wednesday that he would not take his candidacy to a Republican primary. The winner of the Republican primary election will face Democratic incumbent Sean Patrick Maloney in the general election.
Oliva is current an aide to Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino.
