NEWBURGH – A 16-year-old male from Newburgh has been arrested by Newburgh City Police after the car he was driving on Saturday evening failed to stop when officers attempted to pull it over for a traffic infraction. The car led police on a short pursuit in the northeast sector of the city and stopped abruptly in the area of 268 Liberty Street. The driver and passenger both jumped out of the vehicle and fled foot with the driver being caught a short distance away. The passenger was not located.
Officers, with the aid of a K-9, retraced the route of the foot pursuit and found a loaded .38 caliber revolver.
The identity of the driver was not released because of his age. He was charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration, both as misdemeanors, and a violation of possession of marijuana.
The investigation is continuing.
