ALBANY – Wallkill Town Court is the busiest local court in the state, according to the state comptroller’s office, which listed eight courts in the Hudson Valley among the 20 busiest.
Wallkill court collected over $3.6 million last year giving it the top ranking.
Town Supervisor Daniel Depew said that is due to, among other things, two highways cutting through it.
“Definitely because of I-84 and NY-17, but it also has to do with the shopping centers, the hospital, the industrial corridor here in the town,” he said.
Depew credited the work of the three town judges, their clerks and staffs for working through the caseload expeditiously.
The other local courts in the area, along with their rankings and revenue, were:

#5 – Town of Harrison, with revenues of more than $2.82 million
# 6 – Village of Port Chester, with revenues of $2.80 million
#8 – Town of Greenburgh, with revenues of $2.57 million
#15 – Town of Clarkstown, with revenues of $1.85 million
#17 – Town of Newburgh, with revenues of $1.75 million
#18 – Town of Poughkeepsie, with revenues of $1.75 million
#19 – Town of Ulster, with revenues of $1.67 million
