BEACON – Mayor Randy Casale has formed an eight-member committee to study possibly locations for a consolidated firehouse. No decision has been made as to if the city council wants to shut down the three existing firehouses and replace them with a new central facility. A consultant has recommended that course of action.
Mayor Randy Casale said the eight-member group will explore potential sites for a new firehouse.
“This committee is only going to come back and tell us here is where we think they should be built; here is what we think it would cost to buy this piece of property and then the council will decide if they want to do that or not,” Casale said.  “If they decide to buy the property or wherever they want to put it, then that will be the first step. The second step will be when we can afford it, design it and do it.”
Should the city eventually build a new central firehouse, the current three buildings would be offered for sale to the private sector.
